Sergei Rachmaninoff was one of the last great composers in the Romantic tradition and among the finest pianists of his time. After leaving Russia in 1917, he eventually settled in the United States, continuing to compose and tour as a concert pianist; his piano concertos, preludes and études-tableaux are known for their technical demands and lush harmony.
