Johannes Brahms

1833–1897

A German composer whose piano, chamber and orchestral works are noted for their structural rigour.

Johannes Brahms was closely associated with Robert and Clara Schumann early in his career and went on to write symphonies, concertos, chamber music and a substantial body of solo piano works. His music is often described as combining Romantic expression with the formal discipline of earlier composers such as Bach and Beethoven.
