Johann Sebastian Bach

1685–1750

A master of counterpoint whose keyboard works remain a foundation of piano technique and study.

Johann Sebastian Bach worked as an organist, teacher and composer across several German courts and churches, spending his final decades as cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. His keyboard output — including The Well-Tempered Clavier, the Inventions and the Goldberg Variations — is built on intricate counterpoint and remains central to piano study today.
